Opie is a happy lovable American Bulldog who just wants to be around people. He is spends most of his time lounging around relaxing on his doggie bed or the sofa, but he is full of energy when it's time to go outside, play with his doggie friends or just go on a walk with you. Opie is 110% housebroken and actually prefers to have somewhere else to "go" other than the grass in his yard. Opie walks very well on a leash although occasionally when he is really excited about where he is headed, he pulls a little.
Opie gets along with everyone, he hasn't shown any aggression with other dogs of any size including puppies. He also has shown no food aggression at all with dog food or people food. He plays well people and kids of all sizes, and he typically doesn't pay any mind to cats (at least not the ones that don't entice him by running away). Opie does very well at bath time whether it's at the groomers or outside with the hose, and he knows basic commands and will come by hearing you call his name or whistling. He loves to ride in the car especially when the window is cracked for him to stick his nose out.
Opie has great house manners, other than begging (politely) for people food and sometimes picking things from the trash when it's not covered he is perfectly well behaved indoors without a crate while everyone is at work. He has done very well being home alone for 10 1/2 hours M-F and would do just fine in a home with a working family, but he is now is home with people around for most of the day and he really seems to like that better even though he sleeps most of the day.
Opie is always ready to go outside to play or take a car ride, however he doesn't like to spend much time in the yard alone, he really just wants to be with people wherever they are. He isn't very vocal he almost never barks, in fact we have only heard him bark a few times.
Because Opie was found as a stray, there isn't much known about his past. He was extremely emaciated and half of his body was bald with a skin infection, yet he was still a happy sweet boy. He quickly put on weight and he now his pretty white fur back.
Opie does have allergies and has a history of having trouble with his ears, eyes and skin due to allergies. These are minor health issues, but consistent and can't be ignored. His new family should be prepared for continued allergy related health issues and able to provide the necessary vet care and medications that will be needed on an off to control it, because he will always have allergies.
Opie would make a wonderful addition to any family!
