Hi my name is Sgt. Pepper and I am an 11 year old border collie mix. My name used to be just "Pepper" but when my foster Mom met me she knew I was lonely and very, very sad like the song "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" so she added the Sgt. My family dumped me at a shelter in Baltimore, I don't know why. And I sat there and sat there and no one wanted me. I don't know why. I am smart, house trained and do not get into anything I shouldn't. A Buddy for Life saved me at the eleventh hour. The shelter decided not to keep me around anymore.

I am very, very skinny, I have an ear infection and kennel cough but I am on medications and will be all better soon and now that I am getting my meals on a regular basis, I will start to put on some weight. I wag my tail now and feel much happier. But my foster mom knows I have been treated badly in the past and she tells me all the time that that will never ever happen again. I love to have my ears scratched and to get lots of love. I may be 11 but I have lots of good years left. I love to go for walks and to chase balls but I don't really know what to do with them once I get them but I will learn because I am a border collie and as you know we are very, very smart. My foster mom can't tell you yet how I am with other dogs because of my kennel cough I have to be kept away from the rest of the canine family but when I pass by them to go outside I am not the least bit aggressive. I have not met the cat family yet either. If you would like to provide the happy ending to my so far unhappy tale please let a Buddy for Life know. Thanks Sgt. Pepper. Oh I almost forgot, new pictures will be posted soon so you can see how very handsome I am.

Aug. 27: Sgt. Pepper is all better now. His kennel cough is gone, his ear infection cleared up and he is beginning to put on weight. The Sarge is a very sweet boy who has had a very bad life. His reactions show that he has been very mistreated. He is unsure about everything he does and checks constantly to make sure what he is doing is okay. It just breaks my heart. He has not even been taught basic commands but will now sit for treats. He lives in a house with 4 other dogs which seems to overwhelm him a little so he chooses to pretty much ignore them. He would so well in a house with only 1 or 2 other dogs preferably not puppies as he does not like to be jumped on. He seems to have not lived with cats and is not good with them so, no cats for Pepper just to be on the safe side. Pepper is learning to trust and will make a wonderful companion. He is still quite active and is looking for a retirement home where he can live out his years with a family who will give him lots of love and encouragement and help him learn he will not be mistreated ever again. Would you be that family?
