On Sunday, July 29th, A Buddy For Life rescued 17 dogs that were set to die in the gas chamber in a rural shelter in NC.  The shelter picture that was sent to us of Penelope showed a petite girl who knew her fate.  She was depressed, head hung low, in pain from the demodex mange and bacterial infection that plagues her skin.  She knew she was going to die, and simply gave up.  That picture is on this page.  She has an orange leash around her neck.  This picture saved her life as it tugged on our heartstrings.  Her story is exactly what rescue is all about.
What she didn't know is that we were behind the scenes, arranging for her life to be spared.  Once settled into her foster home and starting treatment for her painful skin, she is blossoming wonderfully!  She loves to play with other dogs, loves to play with rope toys, likes cats, and loves kids! She likes to sleep real close at night to her foster mom.  She likes to feel your hand on her as she sleeps.  I think it reminds her of the home she used to have, before she ended up in that shelter.  She is a small petite girl, weighing in at only 30lbs.
Her skin is already looking better.  She has demodex mange which is not contagious to other dogs or people.  We are hoping to resolve her skin issue for good, but sometimes demodex never fully goes away.  Sometimes it will need to be managed from time to time. She is currently not on any medication and is doing great!
