Tippie languished in an Indiana shelter for six months before he came to A Buddy For Life. After living on the streets and pretty much raising himself, Tippie had no clue how to live among human beings or inside of a house.
Tippie has now been in his foster home for over one month and has made spectacular progress. Aside from normal puppy exuberance, Tippie has learned to be calm among new people. Foster brother and sister doggies have taught him the joys of a safe, warm crate, the pleasure of regular meals and rawhide bones, and the necessity of a good belly scratch. His human foster mom has helped learn about the invisible fence, the proper place to do ‘his business,’ and how to sit on command. The four children in his foster home (ages 5-12) have taught him that kids move frequently and quickly, and this no longer startles him. Most importantly, he does not chase children when they run, unless they call him. However, a child laying on the floor is definitely a sign that it time to play wrestle. Tug-of-war and keep away are two of Tippie’s favorite games- mostly so he can get your attention. He certainly cannot get enough human attention!
Tippie likes to be with someone- be it human or animal most of the day. He will sit on your feet and lean against you if you stand still too long, and if you turn too quickly, you are likely to trip over him. So much is still new to Tippie and he loves to check it all out. He is cautious when he first sees or hears something new, but never too afraid to try a quick sniff to see what he can learn.
Tippie has learned enough new skills that he ready for his forever home! Given his love for companionship of all kinds, Tippie would do best in a home with another dog or people around most of the day. He can be left uncrated in the house for four hours without any accidents or damage. Given that he is still so young, he will need lots of appropriate items to chew on and daily playtime to work off his energy.
