Meet Echo. Echo is young adult bulldog mix. He has been chained to a tree with a small dog box for shelter for the majority of his young life. I named him Echo because no one seemed to hear the echo of his desperate barking, a result of being chained with hardly any attention. He was literally screaming for some human interaction. We, at A Buddy For Life, Inc, heard his pleas for help and were able to unchain him on March 30. As we led him away from his physical and emotional prison, we promised him he would never see a chain again. Echo is not in good shape. He is supposed to be a white dog, but the years of being chained in the dirt have turned his beautiful white coat into a brownish gray color. He has sores on his skin where he has laid in his own urine and feces. His eye has such a horrible infection that he holds it closed as it is too painful to open it. He has a painful condition of the eye called entropion, where his lower eye- lid rolls in towards his eye, causing his eyelashes to rub on his eyeball. His healthy eye is a beautiful piercing ice blue. He is extremely malnourished and his ribs and pelvis can be seen through his fur. He is not neutered, and lacks in his social skills because he has been chained for so long, and no one has taught him right from wrong. Until now. We have committed ourselves to Echo and we will treat his horrible eye condition so that he can see his new life clearly through two beautiful blue eyes, and we will start to help him heal both physically and emotionally. He will start going through obedience classes, so that he can be a normal dog—something he has never known.

But we need help to give Echo a new life. We are asking you to consider making a donation to help us help Echo. His treatment will not be cheap. His eye surgery will be in the range of $600-$1000. He deserves to know what gentle human hands feel like, what sleeping in a warm, fuzzy bed is like, what feeling like a real dog is like.

Please note Echo is not up for adoption at this time. He has quite a few hurdles he needs to overcome before he is healthy enough to be adopted into a loving home. If you are interested in meeting Echo, you must fill out an application first. What is required to adopt Echo? Outstanding vet and personal references, agreeing to a home visit, a proven history of Bulldog/pit bull ownership and a fenced yard. Echo will only be adopted to someone who owns their own home. Echo will only be adopted into Delaware, Cecil/Harford Co MD, and select areas of PA. This is to ensure his safety. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of A Buddy For Life, Inc.

Update April 12, 2008--Echo has gained weight and looks and acts like a new dog, thanks to all of the love and care from his foster parents. His infected eye looks a lot better, and now that he is able to open his eye without pain, we have discovered that he has one brown eye and one blue eye! He will be neutered this week where our vet will take a closer look at his eye to see if surgery is still needed. He seems to behave well with other big dogs, he has not been around small dogs as of yet. Once he has recovered from his neutering and his eye has been addressed, he will start learning obedience and will start meeting/playing with other dogs. We will add info about him as it becomes available!

Update April 22, 2008: Echo was neutered today, and our veterinarian now belives that his eye was entropic due to the severe infection he had in his eye. Another week or so on eye medication and his eye should be good to go! Thank you to everyone who donated money to help this wonderful fella. With the care he is receiving with his wonderful foster parents, he has gained 20lbs! He now looks like a real dog, not the skinny pathetic looking guy we found at the end of a chain!
