Meet Buddy! Buddy is a 1.5 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel. His owners recently relinquished Buddy to A Buddy For Life, Inc after they could no longer afford to care for him. You see, Buddy is a product of a puppy mill, and is suffering from a skin condition that our veterinarian believes to be atopy. What is atopy? Put simply, skin allergies. Buddy has had an allergy test done to try and determine what he is allergic to, but most environmental and food factors have been ruled out. We are starting Buddy on a course of Atopica, a drug used to alleviate the allergies so that Buddy can resume his normal life again. Buddy will need to be on Atopica for the rest of his life, although the dose can be adjusted once results are seen. He may not need to have a pill everyday, it just depends how his body responds. Fortunately, for a dog Buddy's size, the drug is not expensive. As of right now, Buddy is in a foster home getting started on his new medication, as well as antibiotics to clear up his secondary bacterial infection he has caused by chewing himself raw due to his allergies. Buddy is good with other dogs, and he used to live with a cat. He is a happy go lucky, fun loving guy when he is feeling up to par! Once you meet him, and get some gentle kisses from him, you will fall in love!
