About Ginger

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Brown/Chocolate
  • Current Age: 24 Years 2 Months (best estimate)
  • Reaction to New People: Friendly
Ginger was rescued from the Kent County SPCA. She came from a bad situation with a bunch of other dogs. We aren't sure exactly what has happened to her but her teeth are pretty much completely worn down.

Ginger recently went through heartworm treatment. She has recovered nicely and is now heartworm negative. This poor girl has had a really life rough and it shows on her. She has bad hip dysplasia in both her back legs and because of this her front legs are arthritic from taking up the slack. We are working on controlling the pain with medication.

Despite all of this Ginger is a truly sweet and well behaved girl. She would prefer to be an only dog so that she can get all the attention she deserves. If you would like to give Ginger the retirement home she deserves please fill out an application. We are waiving the adoption fee for the family who can give Ginger the final home she deserves.

Update June 14, 2009:
Ginger started water therapy with Diane Mayer formerly of Happy Dog Healthy Dog. Since closing the store, Diane has been focused on building an animal wellness center in Avondale, PA. Please visit gentlespiritfarm.com for more information and to find out how you can help. This summer she is fortunate enough to have access to a pool in the Wilmington area to be able to offer swim therapy.

Update August 11, 2009:
Ginger is doing great with her water and massage therapy. She can now go up and down stairs with no problems. She loves to take walks. She really doesn't need a retirement home now, but she does need someone who will keep up with her therapy so she can continue to feel great.

Update December 28, 2009: Ginger would love a family of her own! She is doing great with the joint supplement Dasaquin. She hasn't had as many therapy sessions but hopefully we will be able to schedule some more soon. Ginger doesn't really like her picture taken. She walks away from the camera and tries to hide. I try to bribe her with treats, (she loves to eat!) but couldn't really get too many good pictures. I'll try again another time.

**Because we want Ginger to spend her remaining years in a loving home, A Buddy For Life, Inc, is waiving its normal adoption donation to the right home for Ginger. A donation would be appreciated so that we can help more animals like her.**
