Why Dogs Need Foster Homes Some shelters only hold dogs and cats for 3 days and if the owners do not come by then the animals are euthanized. For the ones that are brought to the pound by their owners, well, they can be taken directly to the back to be killed. These are the shelters that we are trying to work with to give these animals a chance. In some states such as NC, GA, OH, and VA, gas chambers are used to euthanize the animals.
We currently work on a regular basis with a few high kill shelters and we would like to continue to work with these shelters, but we need your help.
What We Need To Do Our goal is to be able to save as many lives as possible. We are only able to rescue dogs and cats from shelters if we have a foster home for them to go to. Right now we desperately need foster homes for dogs.
Our Foster Care Program Being a foster parent means that you are providing a dog or cat with the chance at the new life that they deserve. You will provide love and guidance to your foster pet so that they can move on to their forever homes with conifidence and the socialization skills that they need.
We will provide you with everything that you need for the animal while in your care. This includes food, bedding, crate, toys, etc. and vet care. If you have any of things already and wish to provide it as a donation to help the group, it is greatly appreciated!
Special Needs Foster Homes The length of time each dog is in your home varies. Some dogs are adopted quickly and others may take longer. We also have a few dogs that will come in with special needs such as being heartworm positive. These dogs will need a place to stay for a few months while they are going through their heartworm treatment. They are not typically sick or have any real problems during this time, all they need is a calm environment to recover. They will need to have restricted activity but thats it. Most rescues will not take in dogs unless they are completely healthy. We have taken in several heartworm positive dogs and want to continue to do so, but we need a place for them to recover! Please consider giving one of the poor babies the chance they deserve.
