Thank you for your interest in one of our dogs or cats.
Fill out an adoption application now and we will work with you to find the perfect addition to your family.

Adoption Process
When we receive your application we will begin to call references.  Once all references are checked, we will notify you as to whether or not your application has been approved.  If your application is approved, we will schedule a time for you to meet your potential new family member and a time for one of our volunteers to conduct a home visit.   Because we do want our dogs/cats to go to the right, forever, home it is not always guaranteed that you will be approved for the pet that you have applied for. In this case, we will work with you so that the right match for everyone involved is made.

Fees
An adoption donation fee of $325 is required for each dog.

This fee covers only part of what we will spend to care for the dogs that we rescue.   With the extra medical care for some of the dogs and the boarding bills on average we are spending way beyond the adoption fee for each dog.  We are a very small group working hard to save as many lives as we can. Several of the dogs that we have saved have gone through heartworm treatment and expensive surgeries to improve their quality of life, and in some cases, to save their life. Because we work with several very high kill shelters, the dogs run out of time and boarding is often necessary to save them because we do not have enough foster homes. We depend on our adoption fee in order to save lives.  Please note that we are an all volunteer organization.  Every cent goes towards the care of the animals, no one receives a paycheck.

All of our rescued dogs will receive atleast the following vet care:
Exam
Current Vaccinations (booster may be needed after adoption)
Rabies Vaccination
Heartworm test
Deworming
Spay/Neuter
Microchip
Begin Heartworm and Flea and Tick Preventatives

Think $325 is a bit pricey?  If you decide to get a dog that is advertised as free to a good home, here are just some of the expenses you will incur if you are a responsible pet owner:

Female Dog: Spay $200-$500   Male Dog:Neuter $200-$400
Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella Vaccinations $15-$30/piece
Heartworm Test $30-$50
Fecal Examination/Deworming $20-$50
Microchip $30-$70
Total Cost to you: $325-$760
*prices reflect local veterinarians in DE

Also, please note, that all dogs adopted through A Buddy For Life, Inc, are entitled to free phone consultations with our dog trainer, Wendy Young.  If at any time you have questions or need advice, Wendy is only a phone call away.  You can visit her website at prodogtrain.com.

There is a $55 adoption donation for our cats.  If you decide you would like to adopt two, the adoption fee is $65.
All of our rescued cats will receive atleast the following vet care:
Exam
Initial Vaccinations including Rabies
Felv/FIV test
Spay/Neuter
Microchip

Please also keep in mind that we have to pay for food, crates, blankets, beds, toys, grooming supplies, and anything else that our rescue dogs and cats could possibly need.

Any additional contribution you would like to make at the time of the adoption or in the future is greatly appreciated!
