Dempsey's Story
People in the rescue community receive so many emails everyday about dogs and cats that are in urgent need of help. Unfortunately, we are not able to help enough of them, but when we can we do. This is one that we came across and just had to respond to...

Subject: Oh - aussie mix - cruelty, neglected, hit by car, was to be shot
Just when you think you have heard it all. You learn of more human idiot dog owners. Permission to cross post please.
This is an approx 8 month old aussie - golden mix, aussie border mix, male black and double coated with docked tail. Sweet dog. This dog was originally involved in a cruelty investigation case in Paulding County Ohio. The owners had this dog and another one outside on log chains, chained to itty bitty dog houses they could not even fit into. No food - no water for days. Dog " log " chains would get entangled with each other. You can see from its neck the log chain did some damage to his neck area. Neighbors started complaining to the Sherriffs Department and to Animal Control. They have visited this home on a regular basis and was to the point of taking their dogs.
When all of a sudden a neighbor cant take it anymore and steps in. She asked to take the dogs and the owner said yes. So she leaves with this dog and his buddy. It goes from bad to worse, please keep reading.
This lady called me this am in a panic. The dog she " rescued" and I use that term loosely has been ran over by a car and asked me what she should do. This dog was in her care. I repeatedly told her to take the dog to a vet and NOW. She said dog was suffering and her hubby would probably just take it out behind the " barn ". Yes they were going to shoot it.
I told her absolutely NOT - they did load up the dog and take to the Woodburn Vet Clinic in Woodburn IN and signed off on the dog. This dog had ex-rays done today and no broken bones, he was in shock, breathing heavy and on pain meds. He needs surgery in the am for the skin he has ripped up and needs stitched up. Other than that - he is expected to make a full recovery.
The vets office informed me tonight it was those people who ran over the dog. I guess they made some comment about wanting to teach the dog a lesson - to stay away from cars - didnt mean to hit him but they wanted to teach him to get out of the way. What fools! This dog deserves so much better. **********
Dempsey is currently in Ohio and will be arriving on a transport with Doc the weekend of the 28th. His caretaker and savior left me a message today to let me know that she took him home from the hospital and that he is just the most sweetest, loving boy.
